New clues have been discovered as authorities in Georgia continue to search for a missing private school coach who was last seen on a boat with his fiancèe, who has been found dead.

Authorities are looking for Gary Jones, a coach for a local private school, who has been missing since Saturday, Feb. 8.

The body of college instructor Joycelyn Nicole Wilson, 49, was recovered on Sunday, Feb. 9, in Lake Oconee after a small boat was found circling near Wallace Dam one day earlier, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

Officers with Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources found Jones’ wallet with his driver’s license and credit cards, a hotel key card and a piece of cake in a bag on the boat, according to ABC affiliate WSB-TV.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills previously said Jones and Wilson had checked into a hotel near the lake for his 50th birthday that Saturday, NBC affiliate WXIA-TV reported.

Wilson’s body was found with a fanny pack filled with cash and credit cards, Sills said, WSB-TV reported. A cell phone was also found in one of her hands, he added.

The woman had air in her lungs when she was found, which Sills said likely caused her body to float rather than sink, according to WXIA-TV.

“I’m not saying she didn’t drown, that’s up to the medical examiner, who has not finished their report,” Sills explained. “But it was enough to keep her from going all the way to the bottom.”

Wilson’s body was found a half mile away from where authorities found the 12-foot boat on Lake Oconee, according to a previous WXIA-TV report.

Meanwhile, Jones’ shoes were reportedly floating about 15 feet apart near the shoreline on Monday, Feb. 10.

Authorities said witnesses claimed to have seen two adults, “one male and one female,” on the boat before it was found empty on Saturday.

A childhood friend of Wilson’s previously told CBS affiliate WANF that the pair attended Clark Atlanta University together and had gotten engaged after reconnecting.

Sills told WSB-TV that there is “no evidence of that boat being struck by another boat” or “of that boat crashing into something.”

Since Jones has not been found, Sills told the station that he “must approach this as if this was a criminal matter of some kind,” but noted that it could be a case of accidental drowning.

On Friday, Feb. 14, Sills said that “the circumstances in this case indicate it’s not just a simple drowning,” according to WXIA-TV.

The Emergency Dive Response Team, a nonprofit organization, is assisting with the search for Jones. The Cajun Navy, a volunteer search and rescue group in Louisiana, will be also assisting, CBS affiliate WMAZ reported.

“We will not stop until we find him,” said Richard Pickering, a team leader with the Emergency Dive Response Team, according to WMAZ.
